Simplify Your Routine

Every week it seems like there are new, specialized skincare products hitting the market, with reasons listed why we should add them to our routine. A serum for redness, a mask for dryness, a treatment for breakouts – what ever happened to keeping it simple?

Oftentimes your skin can become overwhelmed and irritated when you introduce too many products at once or drastically change your skincare routine. Ingredients from one product may clash with the other, rendering them useless or causing irritation or an even worse breakout.

If you’ve browsed our website or are familiar with Bloom Mineral Products, you know that one of our biggest goals is to promote healthy, radiant skin, and include “age defying” products in our skincare line. If we could reverse all signs of aging with our miracle product, we would! But unfortunately, no naturally occurring, magic ingredients exist that allow us to do that. However, our age defying products are the next best thing! But what does this term really mean?
 
The most common signs of aging are seen on your skin – wrinkles, dryness and dark spots – and are caused by sun exposure, pollutants, and sometimes just genetics. Last month we wrote about identifying problem areas through face mapping to determine the cause of acne. Many of these problem areas were caused by diet – liver function and digestion play a huge role in how your skin looks!

  1. Water: This may seem silly and obvious, but it is so important that we had to include it! Drinking more water helps flush out toxins, gives you more energy, and hydrates your cells. When paired with a good moisturizer, drinking more water will make your skin look more refreshed than ever!
  2. Leafy greens: Dark leafy greens are packed with vitamins and antioxidants that keep your skin nourished. Use a mask with those same nutrients and your skin look healthy and even-toned.
  3. Berries: Blueberries, raspberries and blackberries are also full of great antioxidants, but they also help combat cravings for your skins number one enemy: refined sugar. products on the market and magazines that give opposing advice, choosing an exfoliant and a
routine can be a nightmare. At Bloom, we agree that exfoliants are a great addition to anyone’s
skincare routine, and have created this handy guide to help you add it to yours:

Which Product to Choose: While some exfoliants can be great for one person’s skin, they can
have adverse effects on another’s. Check the product to see if it is gentle enough to use on the
face, or if it is meant for the rest of your body. Be sure to check the ingredients for items that
haven’t agreed with your skin in the past, and test the product on a small area of skin before
applying it to a larger area. Products with more natural ingredients, like our Hydrating Almond
Scrub, are always a safer bet!

How often to Use: Exfoliating too much can be harmful to your skin, causing redness and
irritation that can take days to clear. Dermatologists recommend exfoliating 2-3 times a week,
and even those with great skin can benefit from this routine. Some products are made as a
scrub, while others are intended as a mask, so always check individual packaging for additional
instructions. Exfoliate on days with high exercise and activity, and on days with acne flare-ups.

What to Pair It With: Exfoliants are generally rougher in order to clear pores and remove dry

How To Protect Your Skin From The Effects Of Winter Weather

Happy New Year and welcome colder temperatures! You may be excited about winter and all that comes with it; the snow, skiing, and warm fires, but your skin is less than excited. Being exposed to the low humidity, harsh winds, cold temperatures, and dry indoor heat of winter can cause a lot of damage to your skin. And let’s face it, (pun intended) dry, flaky, and even chapped skin is uncomfortable and many times unsightly.

So, don’t let winter ravage your skin! Start the New Year off by following these simple steps to combat the effects of winter:

  1. Choose a moisturizer with high quality ingredients. Be sure to use a moisturizer that contains hyaluronic acid, like Bloom Mineral Beauty Deep Moisturizing Shield.
