Products to Never Use on Your Skin

By | skincare routine

We all know how annoying it can be when you wake up and see a new blemish on your face right when you are about to attend an important event. Or how about when you wash your face or use your favorite spot treatment on the blemish, and it just doesn’t go away. As painful as it may be to patiently wait until your pimple disappears on its own, it can be even more painful to try hurry the process with harsh products that aren’t meant for your skin. Do It Yourself (DIY) treatments and masks may seem like an easy way to work magic on these areas, but there are some ingredients you need to avoid.

Here are 4 products that should never be used on your face:

  1. Toothpaste. You may have seen this tip online or in magazines as a teenager: use toothpaste as a spot treatment to dry out pimples. However, most toothpaste brands contain different ingredients, and there is no telling what will irritate your skin even more, often causing increased redness and lingering pain.
  2. Baking soda. Many DIY face masks include baking soda as an ingredient. Baking soda can be harsh and can cause damage by changing the pH levels of your skin.
  3. Rubbing alcohol. A common household item people reach to when they want to get rid of a zit fast is rubbing alcohol. Unfortunately, they may be damaging their skin even more. Like toothpaste, this ingredient can be harsh when applied directly to your face.
  4. Lemon juice. Lemon juice is perfectly fine as a liquid to drink, but that is the only way one should enjoy it. Lemon juice is acidic, and can cause your skin to become irritated and even more susceptible to sun damage.

As with any skincare product, you should always do your research before applying DIY ingredients to your face. At Bloom Mineral Beauty, we do the research for you in our skincare line. We are committed to using the best natural ingredients, including Dead Sea Minerals. Visit our online store or give us a call at 757-857-3728 to talk with us about Bloom Mineral Beauty products.

Age-Defying Skincare: What it Really Means

If you’ve browsed our website or are familiar with Bloom Mineral Products, you know that one of our biggest goals is to promote healthy, radiant skin, and include “age defying” products in our skincare line. If we could reverse all signs of aging with our miracle product, we would! But unfortunately, no naturally occurring, magic ingredients exist that allow us to do that. However, our age defying products are the next best thing! But what does this term really mean?
The most common signs of aging are seen on your skin – wrinkles, dryness and dark spots – and are caused by sun exposure, pollutants, and sometimes just genetics. We have carefully chosen the ingredients in our age-defying products (our Deep Moisture Shield and our Shielding Eye Cream) to address these areas.

The most important and common factor in both of these products is moisture. Keeping your skin hydrated is one of the best preventative measures you can take against the signs of aging, and can even help minimize the signs of aging that have already occurred. We use Hyaluronic Acid, which already naturally occurs in the body, to help your skin retain more moisture.

Another key ingredient we use is Vitamin E, which can help repair damaged tissue. This means it can brighten your skin and even reduce the appearance of existing wrinkles!

Our Shielding Eye Cream uses a botanical complex of aloe leaf, chamomile, green tea and calendula flower, which are all gentle ingredients full of antioxidants that aid in reducing redness and puffiness around the eyes.

And of course, both of these products contain Maris Sal (Dead Sea Salts) that provide the highest concentration of key minerals and nutrients for hydration and skin nutrition.

Our Age-Defying skincare products are true representations of the adage, “age is a state of mind.” When you feel great, you look great. When you look great, you feel great!

Should You Wear Sunscreen Daily?

By | skincare routine

Today, more people than ever are taking control of their health – especially their skin! This means that not only are people washing and moisturizing, they are adding other important products to their routine that will help their skin stay hydrated and happy.

One of these products is sunscreen. This may sound strange if you’re used to only putting on sunscreen before heading to the beach or to do yard work, but there are many benefits to daily sunscreen use. You may have a few questions about adding sunscreen into your skincare routine, and our experts are here to help:

  1. Why use sunscreen daily?Unless you are staying in your house all day, you’re going to be exposed to potentially harmful rays. Most signs of aging come from sun exposure, and preventing wrinkles, pigmentation and sunspots comes down to protecting your skin every time you go outside.
  2. What types of sunscreen are there? You may be familiar with the usual ranges of sunscreen – standard versus all natural, 25 spf versus 50 spf, and so on. Choosing one from these options can already be challenging, but more research will tell you that there are even more variations – like mineral versus chemical. It’s best to find what works for you – experiment using different types of sunscreen and notice how your skin reacts to each with daily use. Jot notes about each to remember what you liked and didn’t like.
  3. Where in my routine do I apply sunscreen? Before you apply any products to your face, you should always cleanse to make sure the previous day’s makeup and oils are completely gone. Follow with a toner and your moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and fresh, and then use your sunscreen before applying any makeup products like foundation and concealer. Your skin will thank you later!

Hormonal Acne – What Can You Do?

By | skincare routine

Many of us mistakenly assume that our acne will fade away as we age out of the teenage years, only to wake up one day with a breakout or cystic acne around “that time of the month.” According to the American Academy of Dermatology, acne affects more than 50 percent of women between the ages of 20 and 29, and affects over 25 percent of women ages 40 to 49.

It’s important to remember these statistics when you’re having a hormonal breakout – it’s completely normal, and many women experience it! However, acne can still be a pain during an already rough week, and though you may not be able to completely get rid of it, there are a few things that can help reduce the appearance of a hormonal breakout. Here are a few:

  • Avoid dairy and processed sugars around the time of your breakout. Dairy adds more hormones to the mix, and sugars can spike insulin levels – both leading to an increase in acne.
  • Start by pulling the impurities out of your skin using a product, like our Purifying Mud Mask, before “that time of the month.” Doing this before the breakouts happen will help prevent them – keeping you from irritating a breakout with scrubs and products after they appear.
  • Use a gentle cleaner, like our Softening Cleansing Milk, daily during breakouts to reduce irritation while still washing away the day’s dirt and oil.
  • Relax! Stress can cause a decrease in sleep and affect your other hormones, causing even worse acne during a hormonal breakout. Be sure you are getting enough sleep and relaxation during the day, and try setting time aside for either meditation or a bath to just breathe.
  • Remember to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water and move your body through exercise or yoga – this is important for any type of breakout!

Don’t Let Your Routine Fall Short

By | skincare routine

We are in the last stretch of winter weather and its more frustrating than ever to walk outside in the morning and feel that stinging cold air. You’ve kept up a strict skincare routine to stay hydrated and luminous through freezing temperatures, but you cannot stop now!

February often has days with warmer temperatures, making it easy to forget about the importance of our skincare routines. Your winter skincare products should remain at the front of your shelf until temperatures stabilize in the spring months. Be sure to continue to drink plenty of water and use a Deep Moisturizer to keep your skin happy.

This month is also the perfect time to take a personal survey on which products are or are not working for you. Which products did you not enjoy in 2017? Which products weren’t helpful to your skin? Now is the time to get rid of the things you’ll never use and make room for some that will help your skin glow in the upcoming seasons!

Make the decision to start your research and find the products you’ll want to switch over to when the last cold days have ended. After months of being huddled up in coats and boots you might want to add a body scrub and foot cream to your routine. You need to be fully restored before breaking out the flip-flops!

Whatever the season, don’t let your skincare routine fall short!

Mommy’s Block Party Reviews Bloom Products

By | Reviews, skincare routine

A big thanks to Mommy’s Block Party for giving Bloom products a try and sharing your experience (and photos!) with your followers!  We’re so glad you found a solution to tame your winter skin, and look forward to hearing more about your experience with Bloom.

Here’s an excerpt:

“I CAN NOT believe I am showing you guys these next couple of pictures!  My feet are so, so bad in the winter.  I put on lotion and socks most nights before bed but still have dry, cracking heels and peeling skin on the bottoms of my feet.  Thank goodness it’s too cold for flip flops.  Just the fact that I took pictures of my feet shows how great this Shielding Foot Cream worked.  It gave me immediate results and I am on the way to summer feet.  I am using this foot cream at night before bed and I can tell the biggest difference in the appearance of my feet.”

Problem Areas: What They Mean

By | skincare routine

We all know that the status of your skin is often affected by outside factors like diet and environment. These factors can cause problem areas for many people, especially if the change is sudden. If you’re completing your skincare routine as you normally would, but find your skin breaking out in places it never has, there is probably a reason why! Here are a few areas where you may get an acne breakout due to a lifestyle change, and what the cause could be:

Forehead and nose: Sudden breakouts on the forehead are most often linked to diet. Whether you’re having digestive problems or have been eating too much greasy food, what you’re putting in your body shows up on your skin. Try to pinpoint what has changed in your diet lately, or consider seeing a nutritionist to help you narrow down the culprit. As always, remember to drink plenty of water throughout the day to flush out toxins and keep your liver happy!

Chin: Most acne occurring on the chin is said to be caused by a change in hormonal balance. For women, this is most likely because of “that time of the month,” but it could also be from dairy intake, or even oils from resting your chin in your hands or putting a dirty cell phone to your ear. Be sure to avoid touching your face throughout the day, keep your phone screen clean and jumpstart your deep cleaning days before your period begins.

Cheeks: Acne on your cheeks could be from any number of things, but is mostly likely due to air pollution or general grime. Your cheeks reflect your respiratory system, so if you live in an urban environment or are a smoker, try to install measures in your home that keep the air cleaner than the environment outdoors. If you live in an area with great air quality, your cheek acne could be from pillow cases, phone screens or makeup brushes – try washing these items more frequently.

While this guide may help you pinpoint the causes of breakouts, they won’t help you get rid of them immediately. For shorter term results, we suggest our deep-cleansing mask followed by a toner to clean pores and rid of acne! Keep Your Skin Radiant Through Winter

By | skincare routine

Have you ever wondered why your skin is so radiant during the summer? If you live near the ocean, it’s probably because of the salt water! Even though you might immediately want to jump in the shower after spending a day at the beach, the water is actually helping your skin.

The ocean contains a high percent of salt, a natural exfoliator, stress reducer and detoxifier. In the ocean you’ll also find minerals like chloride, sulphate, magnesium and calcium. There is a reason that swimming in the ocean used to be recommended to heal! However, summer is gone and temperatures outside are dropping. For most of the country, it is already too cold to go for a dip in nature’s spa, and our skin will no longer reap the benefits that come from salt water.

So how can you continue to get the same benefits of ocean water on your skin when summer ends? Luckily, we have access to products made with salts straight from the Dead Sea, the most majestic body of water packed with over 21 essential minerals that help cleanse and detoxify our bodies. The Dead Sea is like the ocean, only amplified in its healing properties!

Here are a few products available that allow you to do just so:

Bloom Mud Mask: Our mud mask uses mud from the Dead Sea, and contains many of the same properties as water from the ocean you frequent during the warmer months. Using this mask one to two times per week will keep your skin glowing!

Purifying Mud Soap: This soap has the same helpful minerals as our mud mask, but with the added benefits of natural coconut and olive oils so keep your skin soft and moisturized. This bar can be used daily to achieve great skin 24/7!

Almond Scrub: Packed with Maris Sal (dead sea salts), this scrub is both exfoliating and detoxifying! Sea salt helps to balance oil production, retain moisture and reduce acne from bacteria! This scrub is great for areas like elbows and knees that can become dry and flakey during the winter.
