Should You Wear Sunscreen Daily?

By | skincare routine

Today, more people than ever are taking control of their health – especially their skin! This means that not only are people washing and moisturizing, they are adding other important products to their routine that will help their skin stay hydrated and happy.

One of these products is sunscreen. This may sound strange if you’re used to only putting on sunscreen before heading to the beach or to do yard work, but there are many benefits to daily sunscreen use. You may have a few questions about adding sunscreen into your skincare routine, and our experts are here to help:

  1. Why use sunscreen daily?

Unless you are staying in your house all day, you’re going to be exposed to potentially harmful rays. Most signs of aging come from sun exposure, and preventing wrinkles, pigmentation and sunspots comes down to protecting your skin every time you go outside.

  2. What types of sunscreen are there?

You may be familiar with the usual ranges of sunscreen – standard versus all natural, 25 spf versus 50 spf, and so on. Choosing one from these options can already be challenging, but more research will tell you that there are even more variations – like mineral versus chemical. It’s best to find what works for you – experiment using different types of sunscreen and notice how your skin reacts to each with daily use. Jot notes about each to remember what you liked and didn’t like.

  3. Where in my routine do I apply sunscreen?

Before you apply any products to your face, you should always cleanse to make sure the previous day’s makeup and oils are completely gone. Follow with a toner and your moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and fresh, and then use your sunscreen before applying any makeup products like foundation and concealer. Your skin will thank you later!

Hormonal Acne – What Can You Do?

By | skincare routine

Many of us mistakenly assume that our acne will fade away as we age out of the teenage years, only to wake up one day with a breakout or cystic acne around “that time of the month.” According to the American Academy of Dermatology, acne affects more than 50 percent of women between the ages of 20 and 29, and affects over 25 percent of women ages 40 to 49.

It’s important to remember these statistics when you’re having a hormonal breakout – it’s completely normal, and many women experience it! However, acne can still be a pain during an already rough week, and though you may not be able to completely get rid of it, there are a few things that can help reduce the appearance of a hormonal breakout. Here are a few:

  • Avoid dairy and processed sugars around the time of your breakout. Dairy adds more hormones to the mix, and sugars can spike insulin levels – both leading to an increase in acne.
  • Start by pulling the impurities out of your skin using a product, like our Purifying Mud Mask, before “that time of the month.” Doing this before the breakouts happen will help prevent them – keeping you from irritating a breakout with scrubs and products after they appear.
  • Use a gentle cleaner, like our Softening Cleansing Milk, daily during breakouts to reduce irritation while still washing away the day’s dirt and oil.
  • Relax! Stress can cause a decrease in sleep and affect your other hormones, causing even worse acne during a hormonal breakout. Be sure you are getting enough sleep and relaxation during the day, and try setting time aside for either meditation or a bath to just breathe.
  • Remember to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water and move your body through exercise or yoga – this is important for any type of breakout!

Bloom Featured in Sand and Snow Fashion Blog

By | Almond Scrub, Fashion, Mud Soap, Reviews

We always love hearing from bloggers and skincare pros who have fallen in love with Bloom Mineral Beauty. This week Sand and Snow blogger Karyn Locke included Bloom products in her post, “4 Fashion Brands You Need to Know for Spring 2018”.  How great is it that Bloom products work so well they’re considered part of fashion!

From the blog, “Given the option to use facial products that use natural products to get the job done or not, I’m choosing the former. Bloom Mineral Beauty uses Dead Sea minerals to perfect its products including a Hydrating Almond Scrub and Purifying Mud Soap. FYI: Cleopatra and the Queen of Sheba used the same mineral elements to keep their skin looking its best.”

Thanks Karyn, we’re so glad you love Bloom, too! Read the full post, here.

Don’t Let Your Routine Fall Short

By | skincare routine

We are in the last stretch of winter weather and its more frustrating than ever to walk outside in the morning and feel that stinging cold air. You’ve kept up a strict skincare routine to stay hydrated and luminous through freezing temperatures, but you cannot stop now!

February often has days with warmer temperatures, making it easy to forget about the importance of our skincare routines. Your winter skincare products should remain at the front of your shelf until temperatures stabilize in the spring months. Be sure to continue to drink plenty of water and use a Deep Moisturizer to keep your skin happy.

This month is also the perfect time to take a personal survey on which products are or are not working for you. Which products did you not enjoy in 2017? Which products weren’t helpful to your skin? Now is the time to get rid of the things you’ll never use and make room for some that will help your skin glow in the upcoming seasons!

Make the decision to start your research and find the products you’ll want to switch over to when the last cold days have ended. After months of being huddled up in coats and boots you might want to add a body scrub and foot cream to your routine. You need to be fully restored before breaking out the flip-flops!

Whatever the season, don’t let your skincare routine fall short!

Mommy’s Block Party Reviews Bloom Products

By | Reviews, skincare routine

A big thanks to Mommy’s Block Party for giving Bloom products a try and sharing your experience (and photos!) with your followers!  We’re so glad you found a solution to tame your winter skin, and look forward to hearing more about your experience with Bloom.

Here’s an excerpt:

“I CAN NOT believe I am showing you guys these next couple of pictures!  My feet are so, so bad in the winter.  I put on lotion and socks most nights before bed but still have dry, cracking heels and peeling skin on the bottoms of my feet.  Thank goodness it’s too cold for flip flops.  Just the fact that I took pictures of my feet shows how great this Shielding Foot Cream worked.  It gave me immediate results and I am on the way to summer feet.  I am using this foot cream at night before bed and I can tell the biggest difference in the appearance of my feet.”

You can read the full review, and see all the photos, on the Mommy’s Block Party website.

Foods That Help Your Skin

By | Uncategorized

Last month we wrote about identifying problem areas through face mapping to determine the cause of acne. Many of these problem areas were caused by diet – liver function and digestion play a huge role in how your skin looks!

They say that losing weight and getting healthy is 80% diet and 20% exercise, and it works just the same for skincare! Though you can reduce acne through topical products and medicines, getting to the root of the problem will save you from stress over acne later. The best way to do this is through what you eat, and there are a few foods that can really boost the glow of your skin and help fight breakouts. Here are a few to try:

  1. Water: This may seem silly and obvious, but it is so important that we had to include it! Drinking more water helps flush out toxins, gives you more energy, and hydrates your cells. When paired with a good moisturizer, drinking more water will make your skin look more refreshed than ever!
  2. Leafy greens: Dark leafy greens are packed with vitamins and antioxidants that keep your skin nourished. Use a mask with those same nutrients and your skin look healthy and even-toned.
  3. Berries: Blueberries, raspberries and blackberries are also full of great antioxidants, but they also help combat cravings for your skins number one enemy: refined sugar. These tiny fruits are sweet enough to satisfy your need for sugar, without all of the breakouts that processed sweets can cause.
  4. Avocado: This food is one of the top Instagram-able toast toppings, and is also great for your skin! Avocados contain those good fats that ward off those dark under eye circles and hold moisture. Eat more avocados and use your daily eye cream to decrease signs of aging and look more energized than ever.

Problem Areas: What They Mean

By | skincare routine

We all know that the status of your skin is often affected by outside factors like diet and environment. These factors can cause problem areas for many people, especially if the change is sudden. If you’re completing your skincare routine as you normally would, but find your skin breaking out in places it never has, there is probably a reason why! Here are a few areas where you may get an acne breakout due to a lifestyle change, and what the cause could be:

Forehead and nose: Sudden breakouts on the forehead are most often linked to diet. Whether you’re having digestive problems or have been eating too much greasy food, what you’re putting in your body shows up on your skin. Try to pinpoint what has changed in your diet lately, or consider seeing a nutritionist to help you narrow down the culprit. As always, remember to drink plenty of water throughout the day to flush out toxins and keep your liver happy!

Chin: Most acne occurring on the chin is said to be caused by a change in hormonal balance. For women, this is most likely because of “that time of the month,” but it could also be from dairy intake, or even oils from resting your chin in your hands or putting a dirty cell phone to your ear. Be sure to avoid touching your face throughout the day, keep your phone screen clean and jumpstart your deep cleaning days before your period begins.

Cheeks: Acne on your cheeks could be from any number of things, but is mostly likely due to air pollution or general grime. Your cheeks reflect your respiratory system, so if you live in an urban environment or are a smoker, try to install measures in your home that keep the air cleaner than the environment outdoors. If you live in an area with great air quality, your cheek acne could be from pillow cases, phone screens or makeup brushes – try washing these items more frequently.

While this guide may help you pinpoint the causes of breakouts, they won’t help you get rid of them immediately. For shorter term results, we suggest our deep-cleansing mask followed by a toner to clean pores and rid of acne!
